Deaf Girls' Stories

Alixandra Betty Doa'a

This group of Deaf women has been through a lot of barriers through their lives and their stories will tell personal experiences of surviving through oppression. We are proud of what we have accomplished as Deaf women and we still fight for our rights and to stop oppression.

Two women from the Deaf women’s project trained to be peer leaders for the Deaf girls project. A hearing and Deaf team of five facilitators lead the project for six girls in Grade 8 at Metro Toronto School for the Deaf. After six months of hard work, they shared their stories with their families at a big celebration to honour their accomplishments. They not only learned new technical skills that will give them confidence in high school, but a deeper sense of their emotions, and the power of expression.
